THYROID HEALTH
THYROID HEALTH
The most common lab test for thyroid function is the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test. However, TSH testing may give inconsistent results and some people with “normal” TSH lab values present with hypo or hyperthyroid symptoms and require treatment. Having too little thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism) or too much (hyperthyroidism) impacts your health in many ways.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism include persistent fatigue, weight gain, depression, feeling cold, increased cholesterol levels, muscle cramps, joint pain, constipation, menstrual irregularities, dry hair and skin, brittle nails and fluid retention.
Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include unintentional weight loss, insomnia, abnormal heart rhythms, nervousness/anxiety, sweating, menstrual irregularities, sensitivity to heat, more frequent bowel movements and bulging eyes.
